General Advice: For those who are completing a minor in marketing, market research is one subject that you will inevitably take. Fortunately, Ma’am Carla tries to incorporate as much experiential learning to keep the otherwise tedious class, interesting.

Teaching Style: Utilizes conventional methods, and at the same time, infuses learning activities, which allow students to observe (and even participate in) on-going product research!

Requirements Level: Heavy (for an elective, the subject will ask you to turn in a research paper, aside from occasional quizzes and long tests)

Study Habits: Be sure to brush up on previous discussions just so you are prepared for any surprise quizzes the next meeting. Make it a point to participate by either assuming the task of a reporter, since most of the in-class activities are done by groups, or being the representative in games.

A-able Factor (1-Easiest, 5- Hardest): 2 (Techniques are easy enough to pin down, managing all the requirements of the course will be the real challenge)

General Advice: Three things: follow the dress code, attend the class and most importantly, listen to his lectures

Teaching Style: He’s one of those professors who likes to tell stories… even if  at times, his narratives are way off the topic. Concentrate and distinguish when his ramblings are relevant, and when they need to be filtered out.

Requirements Level: Moderate (he’s actually very considerate knowing that for Comtech seniors, the requirements for CTK coincides with that of LS 125)

Study Habits: Just be sure to cover the major points of the readings. It also helps if you can perform the various strategy assessment techniques discussed in the book.

A-able Factor (1-Easiest, 5- Hardest): 2 (the most difficult aspect of the subject is the long test because there is  a total of three written exams in the course of the semester, aside from the partial submissions of the corporate strategic audit)

General Advice: Overall, the class is interesting. However, it Mr. Perlada’s approach to teaching which makes going to this 6 to 9 pm class on a Friday worth it.

Teaching Style: Tries to engage his class by using his experiences in dealing with the global market. Uses powerpoint presentations, which he uploads on time and is very accommodating when it comes to his students concerns.

Requirements Level: Moderate (final marketing paper, which is a requirement for almost every marketing class/elective and WACS, which are accomplished by group)

Study Habits: Although he uploads the slides he uses for class, make sure to read the chapters in the book since the long test questions usually come from these sources. there are no quizzes, so do not be fooled into cramming the test coverage a day before the exam.

A-able Factor (1-Easiest, 5- Hardest): 2 (50% of the grade is individual effort, while the other half is dependent on the your group’s grade. it is up to you to make this work on your favor )

General Advice: If you see a professor who is walking around with a helmet inspired by 300, then you’ve seen Mr. Manaois. He’s not a good teacher… he’s the best.

Teaching Style: Presents with a lot of powerpoints and shares life anecdotes. He knows how to keep the class awake and his humor is witty. His flow of discussing lessons can be somewhat disorganized but he makes up for it by making himself accessible during consultation hours.

Requirements Level: Heavy (a lot preparations and group projects outside class)

Study Habits: He gives handouts about a week before the long test, so be sure to browse through them and reread if necessarily, since he loves taking question items from the readings and copying to them to the test verbatimly. Do these properly, and then prepare even a decent to mediocre presentation for the Group Photoshoots and the Battle of Bellarmine Field and you are good to go.

A-able Factor (1-Easiest, 5- Hardest): 1 (Yes, the requirements are heavy, but the counterbalancing effect is that an A becomes more possible to attain.)

What to expect: Clerical work and long hours gathering stories, following beats and staying in front of the computer. A lot of dead time in between is possible.

Competencies: Com11, Com12, and additional Com classes (especially for those who took the Communications track) will have an easier time blending into the environment, as they are provided with the skills such as working under pressure with minimal supervision.

Trick of the trade: Having a pleasing personality works. It is cliché and all but it really works if career advancement is in your mind.

What to expect: Constant communication with end-users and participation in global applications participation.

Competencies: Team player and works well with staff from other departments and level. Comtech provides the applicant with an adequate understanding of sales, marketing, management, and accounting business processes, but knowledge of other business processes, or experience in other high-tech companies, would be an advantage.

Trick of the trade: Continue improving ability to understand and diagnose problems with business applications.

What to expect: Repetitive duties and close working relations with application design developers.

Competencies: IT background with an orientation towards marketing. Those who select the Computer Science (CS) track in Comtech will have an advantage in interpreting the given information and be able to present it better.

Trick of the trade: Learn to be able to respond to priorities that continually change, and gather experience in MySQL replication.

General Advice: Start strong early on and some signs of consistency will eventually set your eyes on the prize. ‘A’ Don’t worry about the first day. She starts off every semester with every class the same way. Believe me when I say she’s really nice. Basically, take some time to understand what you’re reading and learn it in your own words/language so that explaining it during exams (both orals and written) will become natural.

Teaching Style: Doesn’t like to be interrupted when teaching but if itching for a question, exceptions are allowed. She gives notes of all her lectures so take down more of the “inputs” than the technical stuff. She’s traditional and prefers to use the blackboard and the OHP projector. Moreover, she’s got one of the most relaxing voices that sometimes puts you to sleep rest but put an effort to listen. Though she wouldn’t mind if you sleep in her class, it would help ease the burden of preparations once there’s initiative to listen to the lesson.

Requirement Level: Moderate

Study Habits: Use the Bible, absorb the notes and prepare for the group works.

A-able Factor (1-Easiest, 5- Hardest): 3 only because it’s hard to be consistent.

General  Advice: QMT 12 also known as Statistics can be scary and overwhelming with all the numbers but having Mr. Pilar as your teacher will sure make it a whole lot easier. He’s approachable – very open to answer all your questions. He gives easy, moderate then hard problems for you to work on.

If you’re still not convinced that he’s the one you should get, here’s a little trivia:

1. His 7:30 AM class was a full house (on more than one occasion) because of the sit ins

2. Students outside of his classes attended his reviews – they went early for sure seats 

Teaching Style: He gives lots of problems for practice
